Bring up Bowden to take Delcarmen's position. Insert Atchison into the Ram-Ram role. Relegate Delcarmen and Okey to mop up duty. DelCar, Okey, and Ram-Ram are not reliable. To clear roster spots, designate one of the 3 for assignment: 1) Ram-Ram 2) Okey 3) Delcarmen. Time to be bold Tito and Theo. No time to be soft with feelings. These 3 have been ineffective and have cost us games. Time to make some tough moves.
I do not believe that others in the 'Sox system are ready for ML level of bullpen service. We may need to trade for a quality set up man.

My only concern with Bowden for Delcarmen is that he doesn't have big league miles yet. I don't know that he's had enough starts out of the pen to be considered reliable at this stage. Remember, he only recently transitioned from a starter's role. It's a whole different mindset in relief. I'm not sure that Bowden's quite there yet. He's definitely one to watch and should be brought back into the big league fold sooner rather than later if the Sox intend to groom him for relief in the future.
ReplyDeleteTotally DFA Ram-Ram and Okie. These "Masters of Disasters" are costing us games that count. Who do we have left? Wake, Atchison, the over-worked Bard, Paps and Delcarmen. There's some talk that the Yankees are competing with us for Toronto reliever Scott Downs. Hmm...not sure what to make of this. Dan Haren went to the Angels today. I agree. It's time to be bold with the pen. That's where our major need is right now.
In other pitching news, Felix the Cat got roughed up pretty bad in Columbus on Saturday night. His pitch count was monitored pretty closely by Boston when he was up and he hadn't pitched in quite a few days. I don't think anyone needs to be discouraged by his Saturday night outing. Swinging from minors to majors and then back to minors after being watched like a hawk will mess with you a little bit. He'll bounce back fine for the PawSox. Given the increasingly healthy status of Boston's starters, it may be a while before Felix comes back up again, though.
