Had a nice 11th inning winner on Saturday night. Lackey put in a pretty good performance. Fell short, even with Lester, on the mound today. With Lester on the mound this year since May, there has been a high likelihood of victory. Would loved to have salvaged a split against the Rangers.
There are some bright clouds on the horizon.
1. Bowden pitched 1 inning today, 2K's and no hits, no BB - he could help fill the bullpen void
2. Hermida is close to returning
3. Beckett may be close to return
4. Bucholz should be back this week

I am reluctantly, unhappily, back from Boston. Despite my saddness over leaving Beantown, I'm glad to be able to view Red Sox games again!
ReplyDeleteIf this has been the year of the pitcher, it has not been the year of John Lackey. We've watched the one-time stopper stop dead in his tracks with absolutely lackluster performances. Saturday night, however, was probably his best outing of the year. He looked comfortable, confident and dead on with his pitches. Hopefully the mental issues of playing in Boston have subsided and Lackey can now concentrate on turning in a solid second half. Way to go, man!!
Is it me, or is Kevin Cash wearing Tek's gear? I swear Uncle Buck's got Tek's chest protector on! Attention to detail is what being a fan is all about!
Tough loss for Lester today. He pitched pretty well, but got no run support from his offense. It's hard to watch throws that go up the line or yet another error by Beltre. Lack of precision will get you beat every time. It was good to see Cam hit a solo shot. If he can be used conservatively through the second half, I think we'll get our money's worth from this guy.
I think we deserve another pat on the back for our predictions that Bowden would be better out of the pen. There was an element of surprise that I enjoyed in watching him pitch. The Ranger hitters must have been thinking, "who the hell is this guy?" Bow didn't get flustered and went about his business with the poise of a vetern reliever. I was, however, not happy to see Bard's dry hump. You got Atchison out there!! He got up last night, but didn't come in either. Let's use our head, Terry! I'm gonna keep rooting for Atchison because I believe he's got the goods to be effective in a big way. He's not being given the chance and this is going to hurt big time--Bard's arm will fall off! Wakie Wakie threw a side during the game last night. Since I now have a personal stake in Wake, I want to see him continue to do well.
Looks like everyone is healing up A-ok. Pedey being off crutches is huge. Did you happen to see that his boot was done up in the home whites with "Red Sox" on it? Same with Tek's foot. Tek is obviously behind Pedey in the healing process. Not only does this make sense since their injuries did not occur simultaneously, but Tek's not 20-something. I hear 38 year old bones take a bit longer to heal. Buch's coming back and Hermida will make a rehab start. No word on Vic, but I did read that once he's able to get his hand in a glove, the magicians will work up a contraption for his thumb, so we might see him sooner rather than later.
In other good news, Mikey Lowell will get his "3 days of puppy love" tomorrow and then rehab at Pawtucket on Thursday. Oh sure. Wait until I've vacated the New England area to send the man to Rhode Island. I would so have rented a car and driven to see the PawSox play on Thursday night to watch Mikey in an up close and personal setting like a minor league ball park. The word is that he'll get some starts with the PawSox and at some point, rejoin the team. I'm sure the PawSox can't wait for him to get there, either. When Mikey rehabed with them after spraining his thumb in April '08, he treated the entire team to dinner at Outback Steakhouse. Those minor league boys never ate so good. Rumor has it that Texas is still interested if Mikey proves all is well. Mikey said he doesn't think the Sox will release him or trade him. No one's willing to pay the remainder of his salary, and given the banged up state of the Sox, who's to say Mikey won't turn out to be an asset late in the season?
Beckett seems to be on track for a return to the bigs. I sure hope his surly attitude is back too. You see, Mrs. Tom Brady, the pieces are all starting to fall back into place!! This is going to be a rockin' second half!!
