Has this guy ever stayed healthy for an entire season? Though the news sounds encouraging that a DL stint is not in the offing, how long before his recurring back problems return?
Drew has 'mild' hamstring strain - Extra Bases - Red Sox blog
OK, I'll admit to not being a big JD Drew fan except in the 2007 WS. But, heck, with the dough he is making, 'Sox should get more out of him.

No, Nancy has never had a healthy season yet. I don't think he's played one full season since signing with the Sox. It's hard to believe with all the things that go wrong with Drew that Theo considers him the pillar around which to build the team. I remember reading an article in which Theo praised Drew's OBP. I've seen Drew strike out quite a lot, actually. He does draw a lot of walks as well, but let's not lose our heads and claim he's the guy we want to construct a team around!
ReplyDeleteNESN had the nerve the other day to claim that Nancy's an iron man in the OF. Are you kidding me? Maybe this kind of rhetoric is why NESN's TV ratings have gone down. Of all the adjectives to describe Nancy, "iron man" sounds as wrong as calling him Angelina Jolie! Cal Ripken was an iron man. Nancy's got a very good arm and his throws are usually on target. The problem is the health thing. It's one issue after another with him. An iron man will play through ailments, strains. Heck, some guys with broken feet play catch on their knees. Guys with degenerating hip joints are charging bunts. Not Nancy. Yes, everyone's pain threshold is different, but if it walks like a duck, it's probably limping if it's Drew.
Now, Drew's a Sock. If I ever heard an opposing team's fan knock our Nancy, there'd be trouble. But amongst us friends, Nancy needs to deal.
