ReplyDeleteSS - Lowrie (60 day)
RHP - Tazawa (60 day)
That makes a total of 11.
I think this list just about covers it. Seriously, has there ever been a time with this many guys going down at the same time? The silver lining in all of this is that guys are starting to make their way back. Martinez should be back after the break; Beckett will be starting a rehab assignment later this week; Buch will be back after the break; even Lowrie will be playing with the Spinners. We do have some guys who'll be out for a while (Pedey and Tek; Tazawa), but on the whole, guys are on the mend.
ReplyDeleteTwo situations bear watching. Ellsbury is still not doing baseball activities and he's still at API. To me, this makes absolutely no sense. Why have him at that kind of a facility then? I'm not a medical doctor, but it seems to me that he should've been sent there when he IS ready to start baseball activities. He should've been chillin in Boston, or at his own home in Oregon. We'll have to see what transpires here.
The other very disturbing situation is the Lowell predicament. This may come as a shock to some, but Mikey was given permission to go home to Miami and skip the Tampa trip. Tito said that as the team was headed to Florida anyway, it was no big deal for Mikey to keep heading south. I mean, he's not doing baseball activities either, so no big deal about going home. Wrong! This is fishy. Are Theo and his henchmen getting ready to release him? Because of his stint on the DL, other teams are seriously gun shy about picking him up. Boston would have to totally pay out his contract for any kind of a trade, and what good would that do? I just think it's odd that he went home. There are no reports as to whether he'll be on the next trip to Toronto.
So, as we role into the break, things are not as glum as they seem, but there are still unresolved issues and injuries that may still plague the team in the second half.
