62 games left....

At the century mark of games played, some very encouraging signs from last night's game:  Lackey pitched well again; Lowrie had 2 hits; bullpen performed well; Mikey Lowell had a 3-HR game in Pawtucket; Ells and Petey are getting closer to a return.  Though we did not make up any ground against the division leaders, this was a nice boost.  Bard and Pap threw only 20 pitches in the hold-save situation.

Based upon trade rumors, I am wondering if 'Sox are trying to showcase Lowrie to be included in a trade.  He has a history of injuries but he is versatile and, when healty, has a solid bat.

  1. Let me give a shout out to my boys! Who knew I'd acquire so many of them? There's Mikey, of course. I now have a personal investment in Wake, and because of Mrs. Brady, now there's Lackey. Lackey?? Yes, the same guy who up until the second half hasn't pitched like the old John Lackey. But that guy is gone. The dynamic Mr. Lackey has figured it all out. The mental angst of playing in Boston has disappeared. It's taken a while, but the comfort zone is there and it's now Lackey being Lackey.

I found myself possessive and defensive of Mr. Lackey against the wretched West Coast fair-weather fans. I can understand there being some disappointment that Lackey went elsewhere, but some of those morons held up derogatory signs while they booed each time Lackey took the mound. Boo this, jack-asses! Not only did your organization not cough up the money to keep John in L.A., but he pitched "in your face" baseball in a park he knows like the back of his hand! He's a very intense player, and he holds himself and his teammates to a very slim margin for error. I like this. He's not going to forget his return to the Big A (now we know what the A stands for!). Whose booing now L.A.? Jared "Hair Weave" Weaver and your mediocre Angels got spanked by Mr. Lackey & the Sox!!

All year we've talked about the "Year of the Pitcher," but what about the offense? Finally, we've got good pitching and good offense! We're starting to peak at the right time. Take Mikey Lowell. There are the haters who say that of course Mikey should be hitting bombs in minor league games. He's the MAJOR leaguer in a camp full of kids. But people, get excited about offense!! 3 HRs baby!! That's what I'm talking about!! The beautiful thing is that he faced Charlie Furbush in Toledo. Love Charlie!! If Mikey doesn't get traded (selfish fingers crossed) or released, he's gonna have to get some ABs for the Sox. They have a huge arsenal of big guns now that everyone's healthy or getting healthy. Management ought to figure out how to give everyone the playing time they need so as to contribute to the overall rise of this club. We have a serious chance of going to the post-season if we maintain our current level of productivity.

This leads me to my last boy. Wake's also gonna need some innings of work here soon. Yes, it's nice he hasn't been called on to rescue a starter in the 2nd inning, but throwing sides ain't gonna cut it for Wake. Theo's the one who signed him for 2 years. He's stickin' around, so management better figure out what to do with him. Forget Okie in relief. Get Wake some real work, Tito!!

Afternoon baseball today, people! 3:30, my office! The Monster Monitor will be rockin!

  2. I like the idea of getting Mikey Lowell's big bat into the line-up. Tito must find a way to get him to the plate and with consistency. In basketball, the saying is "feed the hot hand"; well, in baseball, keep a hot bat in the lineup.

Too bad Mikey does not play in the OF. Doesn't he catch?

  3. Mikey was drafted as a catcher, but that was a million years ago. When Vic went down with the thumb and we only had Tek that one game, Mikey volunteered to back up the back-up. Pretty noble, especially when he hasn't caught in forever. He can get himself killed if he doesn't know what he's doing. I can't imagine squatting with his bad hip would be a good move either!
