Hopefully, Bowden's arrival will provide Bard some relief and potential injury from overuse.
Bard was originally developed as a starter. He struggled and re-invented himself as a reliever. Good to see Delcarmen back, too.

For a minute, I thought the title of this post was the Red Sox report card for the post-break games thus far. Two Bs to reflect the pretty good pitching, but a D for offense!
ReplyDeleteThe Globe's "Extra Bases" blog also seems relieved (ha-ha for word choice) that Bowden is in the pen. Peter Abraham wrote "You also have to be encouraged by a bullpen that now includes Jonathan Papelbon, Daniel Bard, Manny Delcarmen and Michael Bowden in key roles instead of Hideki Okajima, Ramon Ramirez and that combustible crew." Don't forget about Atchison. And with the return of Beckett, Wake will most likely be sent out to the pen. Tuesday night may be Wake's last start in the rotation for a while.
Oh how I hate West Coast trips!! I may only get to see a half hour to an hour of these games every night. Looking at the schedule for this week, there's a 3:30 game on Wednesday. Yay! Fun times in the office in that case. The Sox won't return to EST until the 30th!!
