Things are looking ugly @ Fenway

Our almost automatic win in June-July, Jon Lester, struggled tonight.  Ells returned and went 0-4.

Hard to believe that the euphoria of sweeping the Angels has been dulled by the Cleveland Indians (of all teams) coupled with an injury to Youk.  I wonder how the team's morale is doing these days?  Wonder how Ells is presence in the clubhouse affected the team?

  1. Ok, I know things are looking a little shaky right now, but there are still 54 games left. The season's not over. I sound very un-Boston fan-like with my rosy outlook for the Sox. How many of our writers are already painting a grim picture of the remainder of the season? A few too many in my opinion. They'll look like a bunch of morons when things permanently turn around and they will be chastising Bostonians for their fleeting faith when the Sox needed them the most.

In Johnny All Star's defense, he and his wife just had a baby a week ago, so dude's probably not gotten a lot of sleep. The team's getting ready to go on the road for another 10-game road trip, which is probably worrisome to the new dad and annoying to the new mom. The temperature on the field last night at game time was 88 degrees and word is that Johnny boy got dehydrated, which caused his leg tightness. I can't believe that the trainers just sit back in the dugout and watch the game and not talk to the players at all unless there's an injury. If the staff knows that game night's exceptionally warm, why don't they check in with the boys between innings to make sure they stay hydrated? Maybe they do, but Lester told the media that he'd gotten dehydrated during the game. That will certainly cause bad pitching. What caused the lack of offense?

Oh yeah...sitting Mikey in favor of Kevin Cash. How'd that strategy work of stacking the lineup with lefties? I'd say, not too well. I can't tell you how many posts I saw yesterday on WEEI and NESN (including my own) arguing that Vic should've caught and Mikey should've played first. The lineup's considerably weaker with Cash in there, although he did eek out a rare double. As it turned out, he and Scu, Scu, Scutaro were the only righties in the lineup. I understand that Vic's caught every game since coming off the DL, but he wasn't exactly getting a day off by playing first. At this point, days off are not really an option. The boys are going to have to knuckle down and dig in or everyone goes home October 4. Mikey's certainly not going to break playing back-to-back games. Vic sat for 15+ days. The dude wants to play. Oh Captain, My Captain how far away are you from coming back??

The "Return of Ellsbury" was nice but 0-5 wasn't what we'd hoped for. But then again, he's no Mike Lowell.
