Lowell returns in a big way

HR and nice defensive play!  Beckett pitched well.

Despite this really crazy year, 'Sox are 5.5 GB in the wild card.  Yankees are out of 1st place.  Wouldn't it be great to see the 'Sox knock them out of the wildcard?

Have you all been keeping up with Ryan Kalish?  He is batting .538 since being called up.

Ells gets activated today.  Could sure use his speed in "small ball" situations.

  1. Tuesday night's game was the best game I've seen all season--for obvious reasons!! I'll simply say that revenge never tasted so sweet! There are no words to describe the awesome spectacle of Mikey's laser show and his fabulous play at first. I wished there had been a shot of Boy Wonder during all of this. But then again, NESN wouldn't want to pan the camera on someone with egg all over their face. WEEI's Larry Johnson has a great cartoon of Mikey. The lips drawn on his rear speak louder than the profane statement implied. Theo, same goes for me.

What I found totally appropriate about Tuesday night's game is that the two stars--Mikey and Beckett--are the two guys Theo was not responsible for bringing to the Red Sox. Jed Hoyer got them from the Marlins when Theo was in the midst of his gorrila-suit stint with Pearl Jam. How 'bout that? That fact is also tasty, sweet satisfaction!

I think the surly Beckett is back too. The fight was the best thing that could've happened. The Beckett who wants to inflict bodily harm on people is the Beckett we need. (I'm not suggesting Josh routinely hit batters, however.) What I saw was the fired up, competitive Josh Beckett; the Beckett of old, the surly, nasty Josh Beckett. I hope his Zen Buddhist stint is over with. The Beckett I saw being restrained by DeMarlo Hale is the Beckett I want on the mound. That guy has the edge to get us to the post-season and beyond.

As much as I am savoring the Lowell moment right now, I know it's only temporary. Despite Youk's long-range prognosis for being on the DL, Mikey's duties at first will not last long. With Kevin Cash still on the roster, Vic will be manning the bag at first. After being shown up last night, Theo is just waiting for the opportunity to sit Mikey down again under the guise of "not wanting to hurt him by playing him too much." (Transparent BS that the fans and Mikey will see through.) Mark my words. As long as we have Cash, and then as soon as Tek can play, Vic will be the starting first baseman until Youk can play again. So, get your Lowell on while you can!!
