Ryan and Finn on Beckett and Lackey....Globe 10.0 video

These Globe guys have some thoughts on two pitchers, getting paid big bucks, but performing well below expectations.  Finn believes that Lackey may be "hiding" an injury that be hindering his performance.  States that Lackey has a history of pitching  through injuries.

Beckett continues to befuddle the both of them.  Other than 2003 and 2007, they believe his career has been one of a "tease" and explained away to injuries.

In short:  Lackey = $ 82M and Beckett another $68M....yikes!

  1. It's easy to bust on star players when they don't live up to the hype. Heck, we've done it all season with Awesome O'Clock, alias John Lackey. We had high expectations for him and he just hasn't seemed to measure up. He has pitched better lately, despite his loss on Saturday. Is he hiding an injury? I think his ERA would be off the charts if that was the case. I think his mechanics would be terribly affected and he wouldn't be able to go more than a couple of innings.

I think Lackey is a bit smoltzed. He's basically pitched his entire career in the AL West. For the first time ever, he's in the toughest division in baseball--the. AL East. It think he's tried too hard and it's messed him up. Look at the game he pitched against the Angels at the Big A. He cruised. Why? Comfort zone was back. Maybe his best years are behind him. However, we won't know that until sometime next season, after he's had a full year of AL East under his belt.

As for Beckett, his best may very well be behind him. He hasn't pitched the same since the '07 WS. He's lost the competitive edge that he used to have. I thought the brawl with Cleveland last week would rejuvenate the surly Beckett, but that's not the guy who pitched Sunday night. Mrs. Brady & I are convinced he has domestic issues--some chica he's taken up with has screwed up his career. Get rid of her, Josh! Pitching's what counts right now!!
