In my humble opinion, this free agent sign has the makings of a bust. The Globe's O'Shaughnessy delves into the mysterious case of Jacoby Ellsbury. I would not be surprise to see him shipped in th offseason. He may have burned bridges with those further up the food chain.
Tough loss last night. Lackey's performance set the stage for a hole to climb out of and tapping into the bullpen early.
Kalish has been a bright spot so far!

Awesome O'Clock, aka John Lackey, lacked his usual awesomeness. The paltry run support was too little too late.
ReplyDeleteA word about Cam. This signing's going to turn out to be a huge bust--and very hypocritical. Cam's 37 years old, ancient by baseball standards. He was acquired for his Gold Gloviness and outfielding ability. But whether he came with a hernia or has since acquired it, he nevertheless has a hernia--an old man's injury. Now he's back on the DL with a shaky prognosis for returning to the lineup at all this season. The babies from the PawSox will have to grow up fast and carry the outfield.
If we think back to last off season, Theo was adamant about acquiring a man with health and better range at third. From all the reports by Boston media, Mikey Lowell couldn't even stand up. At 36-to-be last year, he was tagged as too old and broken to play anymore. Yet Theo signed 37 year old Cam. Cam--hernia Cam--who's now on the DL. Let's refrain from slighting players about their age in the future, Theo. A happy birthday to my best, good friend Tim Wakefield. At 44, the man's still pitching!! You were saying about 36, Theo?
I can't imagine what's going on with Ells. Unless he doesn't want to play anymore, what's the deal? Again, another brilliant Theo moment. After Cam was signed, it was announced that he would play center instead of Ells. Had the Meddler left well enough alone, Ells would've been in center that day and could've avoided the Wrecking Ball. Maybe things wouldn't look so fine-line as they do now. Atta boy, GM. You really know baseball and players!!
