so goes the days of our 'Sox chances to make the playoffs (borrowed from the beginning of "Days of Our Lives"). Lester has been steady since April. Last night's meltdown was a surprise. I wonder if Pedey's return to the DL deflated the team overall?
Nah, I don't think Pedey's being back on the DL took the wind out of the Sox sails. I think Lester imploded because it was a long time in coming. He didn't have command of one pitch from the get go. The timing is not at all convenient. I'm sure he'd have preferred to have had this happen in early June. But it's just one of those things. I don't think this takes away from his overall stature as an ace. Even aces can have a bad night.
According to the Globe, the team's motto is that they still have a lot in reserve. I believe it. This is a bunch of scrappers, man. Yes, it was painful to watch such a beating, especially when all the starters got yanked and the B team was sent in. Yes, time is starting to slip by, but we still have a chance.
On a positive note about last night, at least Bard & Papelbon got the night off!
