Boston Red Sox - Kalish could turn into a central figure with the Red Sox - The Boston Globe

How Kalish performs in CF may determine Ells' future with the 'Sox.

Boston Red Sox - Kalish could turn into a central figure with the Red Sox - The Boston Globe

  1. The Corn Dog (ok, no one's come up with a suitable nickname here) has fit right in. He's managed to maintain a hot bat and contribute defensively. He doesn't seem too phased by the bright lights and big city of Boston and has the makings of a star. Sometimes these young guys who get called up want to impress in order to stay and end up trying too hard. They blow their chances because they're over doing it. The Corn Dog seems comfortable no matter where they put him. As long as he stays healthy and stays away from the Grease Ball Agent, he should do well in Boston.

As for the Ells situation, it's too bad things have tanked so quickly. You have to wonder what's really going on with him. They should just shut him down now, shake his hand, and tell him they'll see him in Ft. Myers in February (if there's serious thought on all sides of him coming back next year). There's no use in him coming back later in the month only to have this scenario play out again in mid-September. The Kalish/D-Mac/Drew platoon seems to be gettin it done in the OF. Throw Bill Hall in the mix, and perhaps Cameron (although that comeback doesn't make sense either) and we're ok.

  2. Agreed that 'Sox should seriously consider shutting Ells down for the season.
