Nice win in Cleveland

Yankees beating up on the 'Os.  Tampa Bay beat the Blue Jays giving 'Sox more separation from Toronto.

Bard quickly emerging as the closer-in-waiting.  Pap is still the closer but it sure is great to have Bard.  I think RHP Michael Bowden, now down in AAA, should be groomed as a set-up man.  Bard struggled as a starter in the minors and really found his niche out of the bullpen.  Could be the right direction with Bowden.

  1. How about 'ol man Wake? Most innings pitched by a Sox starter!! And, to top it off, he had a really good outing. He's got to have some quiet satisfaction over this after having been sent to the pen and then brought back into the rotation. If/when Beckett comes back, I still don't see the problem in going with a 6-man rotation. Wake's proven that he doesn't belong in the pen.

I agree with Michael Bowden as a future set-up man. After his stint with the club last year in which he played the role of punching bag in situations where the game had spun out of control for Sox pitching, he didn't fair well. Who would? He might make a great set-up guy where there's a different kind of pressure than being a starter. I think Okie-Dokie's days as that guy are over. He's really struggling to even throw strikes.
