Felix to the 'pen??

Rather than making a silly trade, what if 'Sox tried Felix in the bullpen?  I would rather try him or Bowden rather than going outside the organization.  If Ells, Dice-K, and Beckett can come back healthy and effective for the 2nd half, I do not see the need for a trading deadline trade right now.  Okay, if they could unload J.D. Drew for pitching, I would be okay with that.  But, there would be few takers, I think.

  1. I think the long-term goal for Felix is to start. They need him to stay consistent in a rotation and not molt in the pen. I think they have big plans for this kid. Look at the way he worked on Friday night. He's got starter stuff and he was not outwardly phased by any of the hulla-ballou of the bigs.

I would like to think Dice-K could come back from his recent, annoying injury and have a strong second half. I would also love it if the old surly Beckett finally showed up too! If not, Wake's certainly proved he belongs in the rotation and it's obvious we have a stable of stars in our farm system. We can fill holes from within.

I do think we need another set up guy. We cannot keep working Bard as hard as he's been worked. He's going to develop shoulder issues and then we'll really be up that creek no one wants to be up! If we could get a quality set up guy, that'd be a big help. The question is, how do we get him? Um, good luck getting Drew out of Boston. He's the ass's pet, the guy we're supposed to be building a team around, so it's highly unlikely Drew will be going anywhere in the near future. He'd be hard pressed to pass a vetting for a new team anyway, so who'd take him?

The only question right now is Mikey Lowell. This is what makes absolutely no sense to me. The Sox want another team to totally pick up the remainder of Mikey's contract, yet the Sox are paying him to sit and watch games!! Where's the logic in this business deal, Theo? You want to unload this guy, but you won't play him to make him more marketable, yet you have millions riding pine. If someone could explain the business side of this to me, I'd be interested in knowing how it works.

  2. Good point on Felix. If starter is in his future, then he should stay on that course. Wouldn't that be something to have two LHPs in the starting rotation? Hard to believe that the 'Sox once had 3 lefties in the starting rotation: Bobby Ojeda (went to the Mets); John Tudor (went to the Cardinals); and Bruce Hurst (went to the Padres).

Bard had been groomed to be a starter, struggled, and has found his niche out of the bullepn.

That brings us to Bowden. Will look to see how Pawtucket is using him (I believe as a starter now.
