Costly win....

losing Pedroia, just when he was getting hot, really hurts.  Good thing they have Bill Hall to fill in.

Buchholz' knee injury does not appear to be serious.  Tito should hold him out a start to ensure that he does not alter his mechanics to compensate.

As much as these injuries are untimely, I would rather see them in June as opposed to September.

  1. Let's take stock of the walking wounded: Ells; Hermida; Beckett; Cameron's iffy day to day; Drew's...well, Drew; Pedey; and Buch, though Bucky's seems to be the most benign of all the injuries. On a brighter note, at least Beltre was not involved in either the Pedroia or Buchholz injuries!! I suspect we'll limp (no pun intended!) to the All Star break. The schedule for this week seems to favor the infirmed: going home after the game today, Monday off, two at home against TB, Thursday off and a weekend series with them O's. (Yours truly will be coming to you live from Fenway on July 4) If we can make it to the break without losing every single game, perhaps some guys might be back in circulation post-break. I suspect Pedroia's foot may take longer than that.

In the meantime, the Sox will have to rely on those able-bodied souls who aren't dragging a limb. In today's pre-game notes, the Globe gave "Atchison, Topeka and the Santa Fe" high marks for his pitching performances of late. Told ya, Tito! You have more bodies in the pen than just Bard!! An unsung hero like our Scotty may emerge to carry us through to the break and beyond.

  2. I had forgotten about Hermida, another Beltre casualty. Nava and McDonald have filled in well.

I truly believe that a team can never have enough pitching.

I know that Pedroia will get back as soon as he can. He is tough as nails, played hurt in the 2007 WS.
