Fenway. Mrs Tom Brady and Southpaw naoled it - very
Mixed reaction.
Going through the Globes's pictorial on Manny being Manny, I had
forgotten many of his antics.
Good performance from from Felix but Atchison really came up big!
Drew hurt his hamstring - will we ever get an injury-free season from
him?
Big Papi starting to heat up in June.
Sorry Mrs. Brady that I missed your visit on Friday - hope to catch
you next time!

I figured the Manny-meter would be somewhere in the middle. It's hard to forget all the antics he pulled trying to get out of Boston, and once he was out, all the trash talking he did about playing there. Had I been at Fenway, I probably would not have reacted at all. The sound of crickets for his first AB would have totally messed with him! It's funny about fans reactions. If you listen closely when some of the Sox are introduced before their ABs, the fans don't hardly cheer. Beltre and Cameron are good examples, but Beltre especially. The fans know.
ReplyDeleteFelix did a hell of a job! He looked comfortable and unphased by big league hitters. He was probably dying on the inside, but he maintained a poise that bodes well for his future. And, when I turned the game on, I almost fell out of my chair. The night before, I had talked to my Dad about Felix and how I was looking forward to watching him pitch because of all the good things that had been said about him. I casually mentioned to Dad that I'd bet money that they'd give Felix to Tek for his big league debut. I hadn't seen the lineup until I turned the TV on. When I saw Tek, I gleefully boasted that I was right. (I should have made a wager with Dad--I would have cleaned up!) But then it made me wonder about the catching situation. The Sox totally got Vic for his offense. He's an ok catcher, but his real worth is in his bat. So next season, what do we do? I think the fact that Tek handled a rookie instead of Vic speaks volumes about Tek's worth. There was a lot of hemming and hawing about whether Tek was actually going to come back to the Sox. With Bor-ass as his agent, playing hard ball when you're a 38 year old catcher, struggling offensively, is maybe not the best move. But things have worked out this season. Tek's having a much better year than anyone thought given his numbers the last few seasons. If I was in charge, (Theo, seriously call me!), I would keep Tek around. As long as he's physically able to crouch behind the plate, he ought to be part of the team. Obviously, he's highly valued or Vic would've caught Felix.
Kudos to "Atchinson, Topeka and the Santa Fe" for an absolutely lights out performance. This guy's coming around and he should be utilized a lot more than he has been. Once again, "Rubber Arm" Bard was called in. I'm worried about blowing this kid out. What if we get to the post-season? With the way Bard's being used now, he won't have an arm in October.
I don't think I'll be seeing the Sox this afternoon. Since they were scheduled to be on Fox, and the Nats are also scheduled for Fox, the local Nats will air here in MD instead of my real "local" team. I can't watch it online either because it will be blacked out because of Fox. Rats!! Wakie, Wakie, you'll just have to pitch without me. Thanks a lot Fox!
The homerun over the Monster on one knee by Beltre was classic...need to find the YouTube clip.
ReplyDeleteHow does he do that???
