Interleague play

provides for some interesting situations.  The Globe had an article in which Buchholz bragged to teammates about this hitting ability.  He got it but hurt himself n the basepaths.

I saw where Lackey was used as a PH the other night.

Seeing Big Papi at 1B is interesting.  He is adequate with the glove, by no means a Golden Glover.  I suspect his range is not that good.

  1. We can all breathe a sigh of relief. Our pitchers won't have to bat again until the World Series ;) Interleague is fun for about the first three games. After that, it becomes worrisome for AL pitchers who have to bat in a NL ball park and then run the bases. Hooray that it's over!!

Ok, let's take stock. What are our casualties coming out of interleague? Pedey, Buch and now Vic. Band-aids and duck tape all around. I played arm chair manager when Vic had to come out of the game today. Since I've been doing this all season, I've ample experience in shuffling our lineup. Worst case if something had happened to Tek, Bill Hall would've come in as the back up catcher. Beltre would've gone to third, Ortiz would've stayed at first and Youk would've added second to his repetoire of positions played. Thankfully, Tek came through without a scratch, Youk slid back into his normal position at first and Beltre came in to play third. Ortiz makes me nervous as a first baseman. I know why he's in the lineup, but he can actually do more harm than good defensively. He has no range and hustling after an errant ball is a challenge. After today, I see no reason to have him at first again until the World Series. It's times like today that the Sox are going to miss Mikey the most. With players dropping like flies, today's the kind of day you appreciate your bench. That's why it's critical the "Rescue Squad" gets some ABs and some field work. Rusty nails don't win ball games.
