Disppearing Act

The Globe has an interesting article on Ells.  Click here.
I hope the 'Sox have not given up on him.  Any player who can score from 2B on a wild pitch to the backstop has game-changing speed.

  1. Mrs. Tom Brady and I talked about this yesterday. "Out of sight, out of mind" seems applicable here. The Sox have clearly demonstrated that they can survive without Ells. They weren't sure they could initially and rushed him back before he was ready. He ended up hurting himself again in the process. After that catastrophe, the team stayed intact and even started winning. But I agree that it's way weird to ship an injured guy out to recoup. Why couldn't he have stayed in his own place in Boston and joined the team for their homestands? The fact that he's in AZ but not doing baseball activities yet is a bit bizarre.

Hermida seems to be recovering ok and he's stayed with the team. As I said yesterday, Ells's injury may make road games more difficult for him, but he should be there for homestands. Perhaps Jacoby has mental issues. Seriously, no joke. When you're leveled like he was by Beltre, you may be less inclined to put your body on the line for fear of another serious injury. The fear of the pain overrides one's sense of anything else. For an outfielder, the mental trepidation of an injury is not good. The position requires you give up your physical well-being for a play. It's the whole getting back on the horse thing. (I know of what I speak--I've spent a lifetime literally falling off horses. You're always afraid of the next spill, but if you dwell on if/when you may come off again, you're never going to ride.) Just sayin, Ells.
