hope the bullpen is rested. So far, 1 H, 2 BB and no outs.
It would be sure nice to get some consistency from him. I agree with southpaw's earlier post about Dice-K wanting to play in the World Baseball Classic. Seems to me that 'Sox pitchers who have participated, Dice-K and Timlin, have gotten hurt during the regular season. Theo needs to say "no" and nip that one in the bud. The guy cost the 'Sox over $100M to bid for and to sign him. I believe that they have some say in when and where he pitches.
Back to Lackey. Theo needs to focus on the farm system and stay away from free agency. His track record is pretty poor, though he has had a few successes. $82M can pay for lots of scouting and signing bonuses.

An unbelievable day followed an unbelievable night. How many Diehards stayed up to watch the entire laser show? When I turned the game off around 11, I thought the boys had things under control. I was shocked when I logged on to the Globe this morning and saw the final score! What the heck? I know I sound like a broken record, but I hate west coast road trips. Us easterners have a hard time past 11 pm! At least this easterner does!
ReplyDeleteI worried about Dice-K. Things looked ugly there in the first few innings. Even Tek looked exasperated with him. The FSN bores I was watching aired a conversation between Tek and Dice-K on the mound in which Tek looked like he was having trouble getting Dice-K to understand what he was saying. Japenglish seemed to work because Dice-K leveled out and began to look a tad more comfortable. And how 'bout his base hit? He hit one during the WS, so we know it's possible.
The dry hump was workin last night. Richardson and Atchison both got up, warmed, and sat back down. Nice. Pap coughed up another one, but we can't expect miracles every time. The boys gave Dice-K the run support to prevent an otherwise "Lackluster" outing.
As our thoughts turn to the SF series, and a 10 pm first pitch, I'll be looking forward to seeing Wakie Wakie's and Buch's ABs. They ought to be good! Also seems like some decisions have to be made in the coming weeks by Mikey. What would be nice is for them to shoot him up for one final farewell game, preferably July 4 at Fenway, so all the Lowell-ites can give him the send off he deserves.
A post-script: Due to the insanity of academia, I might be otherwise engaged the next three-four weeks. If my posts aren't timely it's not because I'm not interested. It'll be because of the madness of academia!!
