The 4 teams continue to be bunched up. Despite a shaky start, our 'Sox are right in the hunt. I was checking the Wildcard standings and the 'Sox are only 2 GB.
I believe that Toronto will lose steam eventually.
Hopefully, 'Sox will get back to full strength after the All Star break with Ells, Beckett, Cameron back close to 100%.

Another quality start by Lester. A bit of a pitcher's duel with Guthrie, though. I was hoping the Sox were going to pounce on him early in the game. Late game heroics are great, but the previous 7 innings can drag!! The thing I liked the most about Lester was that when he came out of the game with the bases loaded, he was so fired up that he wasn't able to throw any more strikes that he beat his glove on the dugout bench. Were you watching, Josh Beckett? That was the fire of a true competitor, a gamer concerned that his performance wasn't good enough. Josh has lost this edge. I hope he was taking notes.
ReplyDeleteWhat can you say about Youk?? If this guy's not an MVP then the fix is in!
The review of Scuataro's behind-the-pole shot made me think of Galarraga again. The umps went and reviewed the tape to make sure they got the call right, but Galarraga gets denied his due!! Give me a break, MLB!! Either instant replay is in 100% or its not!! Shame on you, Selig!!
With the Sox win on Saturday night they should have picked up ground on both the Yankees and the Rays because both those teams lost. I think we have found our rhythm and are beginning to climb the ladder. Even with understudy players, we're getting the job done. I don't think the Yankees will physically be able to hold up the remainder of the season, and it seems the Rays have come crashing down to earth. Any team is beatable, Joe Maddon. Toronto will be our bug-a-boo. We're going to have to win consistently and hope for the worst for the Jays in order for them to fall from the middle of the pack.
Coming to you live from Camden Yards this afternoon for Broom Day!! I'll be behind home plate, so I should have a good view of one John Darren Lackey!!
Youk is valuable with his versatility, too. He can play 1B and 3B, both very well. I remember reading how when Youk was playing AA ball, there was doubt about his power numbers and arm strength. He has certainly quieted his doubters.
ReplyDeleteI, too, like Lester's intensity and mental toughness. I think Buch has developed that toughness, too. Casey Kelly, at AAA, was talking about how early pitching woes have enabled him to learn.
I agree that Beckett has lot his edge and velocity as well.
