Beckett comes through for 'Sox
Could the Beckett of old be re-emerging? If so, he could not have picked a better time than last night. The former ace of the staff came through when the 'Sox really needed him and gave the bullpen some much needed rest. That is the role of your ace or stopper. Perhaps his performance could be the list that the 'Sox needed. Good to have you back, Josh. Now, let's keep it going against the Devil Rays!

I was psyched by what I saw from Beckett on Sunday night. He looked like the old, surly, game-on Josh. He was focused and in a groove. The mental implosion that usually occurs in innings 4-6 didn't happen! Either Josh has finally kicked the blue birds or the sports pyschologist is working wonders!
ReplyDeleteI have to emphasize the role of Jason Varitek in Beckett's success. Last year, Vic was the primary catcher and when Tek got hurt, the only catcher. Red Sox Nation has been screaming for Tek to become Beckett's personal catcher. Mule Tito has refused. Um...why? Wake had Dougie for all those seasons. What gives? To me, it comes down to winning. If this is what it takes to get Beckett to be Beckett and notch us some wins, why the hell not use Tek as a personal catcher? I hope Tito learned something on Sunday night. If not, I guarantee Beckett's next start, with Salty, is a bust.
