A solid 7 innings from the starter (Beckett), Bard to set-up, and Pap to close. This is what Double T (Tito and Theo) had in mind when they put together this team. Timely hitting and good defense. Taken all together, this was a nice and much-needed win today.
I continue to appreciate the contributions from Jed Lowrie and Mike Cameron.
Today was a game to build on. Now, hand the ball to the next starter and continue the confidence building.

Ok, Double T is a good nickname for the boss and the hand-puppet. Honestly, though, if Theo was my boss and meddled into day-to-day operations when he's really not a baseball guy, I think I'd have to lay some ground rules down.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, what did we learn today? For starters (ha-no pun intended), Linus has to have his security blanket. We said this from day one. Beckett is such a head case that he needs Varitek behind the plate. Given his stellar outing against the Yankees last Sunday, Tito would've been adding another nail in the coffin if he didn't put Tek behind the dish today. All that talk about Beckett not having a personal catcher is crap! What the heck was Dougie doing there all that time for Wake? Tito needs to get over this "no personal catcher" business for the good of the team and a win. I'll be looking for this same battery in Anaheim on Thursday night.
Second, Jed Lowrie's the real deal. He was touted as the second coming of shortstops until he got hurt...then got sick. With his switch-hitting abilities, match-ups are a non-factor (too many hyphenated words here!) Tito should abide by the motto of "if you produce, you can play." Right now, Jed is producing. Yes, Scutaro had a big hit on Friday night, but it eventually was for naught in the loss.
Third, Crawfish is scared shitless to play in Boston ($ in the jar.) He's trying way too hard and he's more of a hinderance right now. Let Crawford be Crawford and talk this guy down from the roof. Hitting him lead off is about the dumbest strategy right now. Hello, Tito? Can't you see what's going on here?
Fourth, do not, under any circumstances, give the ball to High Jenks. I'd like to know who had the man-crush and signed that guy? He's no good. I can see Ozzie's point and the war of words makes sense. (Named my bad-ass cat after Ozzie, so I respect the man.) You're right in that Bard set up Pap. Game over. But this supposes that our starter gets us deep into the game and allows Bard to set up in the 8th. I'm not so sure the rest of the rotation, save Lester, can do that.
Needless to say, today was a much needed win and a big morale booster. Here's hoping the boys can ride this wave and take the series. Giving Awesome O'Clock the ball in Oakland on Tuesday is promising since he's going back to an old stomping ground. I also hope Tito gets it through his head that success with Beckett this season means Tek behind the dish every start.
