Boston Red Sox - Lineup is starting to fall in order ... sort of - The Boston Globe

On paper, it is a very strong lineup. Not sure what Big Papi and Drew will provide this year as to power and RBI's.

  1. The lineup featured in yesterday's show against the Cardinals was, in my opinion, the starting lineup. I know we can switch out Tek for Salty, but no matter the order, those are the starting 9. Even with the Varitek/Salty thing there is room for maneuverability. We all know that Beckett's a special case, but if Dice-K has trouble in the first few months of the season, I would hope that Tito would let Tek handle him. The first 3 starters don't seem to have a problem with who they throw to, but if Beckett continues to implode in the 4th-6th innings and Dice-K gets roughed up, I personally would feel more comfortable if Tek caught them.

I heard Jerry and Don say on NESN during yesterday's game that two speedsters on one team was huge. Finally, the Sox will have a legitimate running game. If Salty can gun down the opposition, we'll definitely be able to stop the running game.

I also heard kudos for Drew's cat-like patrol of right field. If he can stay healthy and be productive, he'll get the love. Yes, it's a crap shoot as to whether Papi will come out of the gait swinging in April or whether it will take him until June to get hot.

With only a week-and-a-half to go until Opening Day, there's still a bit of last minute cleaning up to do around camp.
