Juan Carlos Linares | SoxProspects.com

Here is a player who is off to good start in Spring Training. You never know about Spring Training as to who might emerge. I recall in 1997-98 when 2 young players acquired from Seattle, Jason Varitek and Derek Lowe, raised eyebrows with the 'Sox coaching staff. Varitek pretty much displaced free agent signee Jim Leyritz at the catching position.

  1. I am not as familiar with this kid. There are so many prospects floating around the Fort this season; it's hard to keep up with all of them. As we saw last season, the farm can be absolutely instrumental if the regulars go down the tubes, or just down as was the case last year. If I have to give Theo any credit (and you know how this absolutely PAINS me), we do have one of the best farm systems in baseball. Yes, the Yankees go out and buy their talent, but our boys are home grown. I think the fans appreciate those players more who do their time in the minors and perfect their craft enough to get a call-up. On some level, it's better than buying talent. That said, we shouldn't shy away from wheeling and dealing where applicable. I don't think Theo's "bet the farm" on any serious talent at the expense of the quality of our minor league system.
