Another prospect making noise - Lars Anderson

Admittedly, I was not too impressed with his showing via September call-up.  But, this Spring Training, he is drawing favorable comments from Tito.  One problem though:  the 1B job is locked up with Gonzales, Youk behind him, Big Papi (maybe), Lowrie as well.

Who knows, he might be a good trade bait to package with Dice-K.

  1. Ok, I'll admit it. Lars and I got started off on the wrong foot. I mean, who could blame me? Lars, through no fault of his own, gets called up last September because of the injured Youk and the uncertainty over whether Mikey could play regularly at first. Well both Mikey and Lars made believers out of doubters. I've heard a lot of good talk about Lars this spring.

The job at first is locked at the moment. Unless Lars has some bang bang season with Pawtucket and someone goes down on the Sox, I can't see much need for him at the moment. That's not to say we shouldn't keep him around. I don't think he harbors unrealistic expectations about getting major league time with the Sox. Lowrie can also play third, so if something happens to "Yo Adrian," Youk can always go back to first and Jed to third or Jed can play first. I cringe at the thought of Big Papi playing first. He's just too lumbering for anything other than DH.

Tito really has it made this season. He has so many options for so many positions. I think if Lars does his time in AAA, he will eventually get his chance in the bigs. I will say, however, that if Theo doesn't get the whole Gonzo contract thingy ironed out, Lars may get his chance faster than we think!!
