With the way Wake pitched last night, I can't help but think that they need to get him into the starting rotation more. He is such a team guy who has done everything his managers have asked of him since signing a minor league deal with the 'Sox in 1995. Even then, he was a godsend given how both Clemens and Sele were on the DL for a good portion of that season.
Nice way for the 'Sox to take the weekend series against the Cubs. Sorry to see the Byrd beaning. Hope that he recovers fully and quickly.
'Sox bats have come to life with the exception of Craw-fish. Salty seems to be gaining greater confidence all the time. I was too quick to give up on him!

Be honest, fans. You know you are in love with Tim Wakefield. Yes, he's like 44 and a bit heavy, but by God, the man can pitch! Total team guy, does what's asked, never complains. That knuckler was workin' for him Sunday night. The baseball gods smiled down on the Sox 'cause Wake would be the first to tell you that if the knuckler ain't workin, there's nothing that can be done. With Wake's stellar performance, the late innings set up exactly how they should: Bard, Pap. Done deal.
ReplyDeleteI hope Wake can get a few more starts this season. He's at 194 wins, career. His goal is 200 wins. I think it can be done. Who the heck knows if/when Dice-K will be back. Wake may be in the starting rotation for the foreseeable future.
Salty has definitely improved. It's good to see his confidence level going up. I've also noticed that win or lose, he talks with the press. Either he's being sought out or he's speaking freely. The point is he's got a little leadership thing going on. It's nice to see.
