He came through as a PH and hit the game-winning HR - nice job, Big Papi! He leads the team in HRs and is making a strong case for a contract extension. But, we have a long way to go and his $12M contract is a bit hefty for a DH these days.
'Sox go for sweep tonight. Worst case, they end up taking 3 of 4 in Detroit.

Well I for one was a bit shocked. Not so much that David pinch hit, but the fact that he actually hit one out! He actually did what he was called on to do! "Oh ye of little faith", you chide, "this is David Ortiz!" Yes, but I've seen this scenario set up before and have seen David either get called looking or flail miserably at the pitch. It was nice to see the strategy actually work for once! No question that this is the Ortiz we'd hope we'd be getting when the season started. I just hope he can keep it going.
ReplyDeleteIn other news, Beckett looked flat on Sunday night. (Thanks to the good people of NESN, MLB.TV and ESPN, I saw the whole thing online.) I don't think there's anything wrong with Josh. I just think it wasn't his night. That's ok. This kind of thing is going to happen. Can't be Cy Young every start. Now, let's look forward to the Laundry Room series as the White Sox come to Fenway. I'll be looking for Ozzie to go all Hitler on somebody! Maybe he & Jenks will reopen their war of words!!
