Wasted effort

Beckett seems to be back.  Pap had the 3rd out down 0-2 and gave up the game-tying hit.  Too bad that Beckett's fine effort could not be saved by Pap.   When you have the tying run at second and the hitter down 0-2, time to apply the knockout punch.

    Michael Jackson's son isn't the only one named "Blanket." Consider it Tek's new nickname. What else would you call our trusty and faithful catcher who nurses head cases like Beckett through their starts? Since Beckett was pretty much guaranteed that Tek would catch him every start this season, the man has pitched like the Beckett of old. Linus can't function without his Blanket. We'll worry about Tek retiring if/when that comes. For the time being, let's just Beckett through the season.

    First blown save of the season for Pap. Even the immortal Mo Rivera has been known to cough up a game or two. As long as Pap stays away from last year's record of bomb outs, he should be fine. While I think Beckett would've personally liked to have gotten the win, he probably was ok with the team eeking out a victory instead.
