Due to technical difficulties this morning (i.e., my office comupter crashing), I'm only getting around to this now. So, without further ado...Welcome to the 2011 season!!
Reports are indeed true that Mr. Lackey has come to camp 10 lbs lighter than last season. Rumor is that he'll only be going to McDonald's once a week instead of every day. Seriously, kudos to Awesome O'Clock for dropping the weight. I think he's going to find that he'll pitch better for it.
Also, as it pertains to our Mr. Lackey, I saw a report that his wife Krista was diagnosed with breast cancer. The report said that it was caught early and Lackey said she was doing great. Best wishes to Krista Lackey for a speedy recovery!!
The other big news is that Beckett showed up to camp in great shape AND married!! Mrs. Beckett is a bona fide rocket scientist, so if Curt Young has difficulties with Beckett's mechanics, I'm sure Mrs. Beckett can come up with a mathematical equation or some kind of physics problem to straighten her husband out.
On the Theo front, he certainly looks like the "GM of the Century" with all these big signings. Well, that may be but I cannot forgive and forget even if we win the Series. Some things you just can't turn loose.
Over the winter, all of us armchair managers played with lineup and tried to figure out where Gonzo and Crawford would hit in relation to everyone else. Here's my take: I don't care what order you put up, just don't start the season with Ells in the lead off spot. He played only 18 games last season. And, if you recall, he dropped from 1st to 9th in the batting order and actually produced in the 9th hole. I would suggest to Tito that he start the season with Ells hitting last and then after he gets the mileage back on, move him up. I think the comfort zone beckons at the bottom of heap right now. He'll come back to his old form and by June, the lead off spot will be his again. But that's a lot of pressure right out of the gate with only 18 games under your belt.
It's a little bizarre without my baseball boyfriend this season. Contrary to Mrs. Brady, that position has NOT been filled by our Mr. Lackey. It's gonna take some time.
