Boston Red Sox Story on NESN.com

I am currently reading a Boston Red Sox story on NESN. Link: http://www.nesn.com/2011/02/jacoby-ellsbury-surrounded-by-support-systems-in-return-to-center-field.html

I look for Ells to bounce back.  He and Crawford could easily combine to steal over 100 bases this year.

  1. I hope there are no lingering effects with Ells. Is there a mental block that will prevent him from putting his body on the line to make a play because he is afraid of getting hurt again? Ask Pedroia about the mental factor. I remember reading in Pedey's book how he'd gotten hurt in college and although he healed, he was plagued by the thought of getting hurt again. It's easy to believe that you don't dwell on the occupational hazards of sports, but in the back of your mind you know there's a good chance you're going to be hurt bad. While I think Ells is in tip top shape physically, we won't know for sure if all is well until he has to make a diving stop, slides on his belly or perhaps gets too close to Crawford if he's shading left. If he makes these plays cleanly, we'll know he's not harboring any ill effects from his injury.
