Not since 2004...

have I looked forward to the start of a season more.  That year, Schilling joined the pitching staff, went on to become a 20-game winner, and became a hero in RedSox nation lore.  What a memorable season.

The only other times I can recall was when Rice and Lynn came onboard for the '75 season.  Each had just over 100 RBI's that season.  The previous year, the 'Sox had added pitching with Rick Wise, Reggie Cleveland, Juan Marichal, and  Dick Drago.  The '75 starting five include:  El Tiante (18-14), Spaceman Bill Lee (17-9), Rick Wise (19-12), Reggie Cleveland (13-9), and Roger Moret (13-1).

  1. Again, due to technical difficulties in the office, I am only getting to this now! I want Peter Abraham's work station in the Globe trailor at the Fort, please!

I don't think there's anyone more excited about this season than me. (Ok, maybe the boys are) Everyone's come to camp healthy (so far) and we're overflowing with talent. If our rotation holds up, those 5 guys are going to kick serious bootay. I'm overjoyed with the poor showing for the Yankees this offseason. You've got to hand it Hank. He's a real crumble off the old Steinbrenner block.

When I look at the pick ups of our AL East rivals, I have to laugh. Seriously, on paper, the Red Sox are hands down the best team in the division. I know. Theo came in last week and threw water on everyone's love fest. True, not one inning of one game's been played yet, but the team as a unit is stoked for the season to begin. There's a confidence and a good vibe in there now that was NOT there this time last year. If we look back, Wake was sulking because he'd been pushed out of the rotation; Mikey was pissed (with such good reason I might add) because he'd been designated for riding pine; and Beltre was uncomfortably trying to fit in. All season we kept saying that there was no chemistry on the field. That comes from the karma in the locker room. Everything's got to gel in just the right way, and from day one last season, that didn't happen.

This is a new team and a new year. I think the chemistry's good, the feelings are good and everyone's ready to play. I really have high expectations for this team. I love the t-shirt slogan that the good folks at Chowdaheadz are selling: '04 + '07 = '11. I TOTALLY believe it!!

The good news is that I will be able to get to some home and away games with the boys this season. Anaheim and Baltimore in April; Boston in May; perhaps Yankee Stadium in June; perhaps the All-Star Game in Phoenix in July; and Baltimore at the end of September. (Note to self: home or away game for August?) Anywho, I'm counting the days until Opening Day!! This is going to be a good ride!!
