Minor trade. Dustin Richardson showed promise. Hope Theo did not give up on him prematurely.

Red Sox swap Richardson for Miller - Extra Bases - Red Sox blog

  1. According to "Rubber Arm" Bard, Miller could have a killer year with the Red Sox. To be honest, I wasn't that impressed with Richardson. Out of all the understudies that we saw this past season, Richardson seemed to be a bit shaky. It's really not his fault. I've said it before that these pitching-types without a lot of Big League miles cannot be expected to come in and save the day. In all fairness to Richardson, he would occassionally have to come in and mop up a wicked mess. When he wasn't able to do it, it really looked like we had nothing but B-types on the team (which we did--we just didn't want it to LOOK like we did!) Miller and Bard were teammates at UNC, so if anyone has a good assessment of Miller, it would be Bard. And, although strange signings make strange bedfellows (or something like that), Miller could fit into the Red Sox bullpen like Cinderella's slipper. After a season in which Theo discounted the importance of the bullpen, I'm happy to see that we have a new brother in arms.
