'Sox take 2 of 3 from the Brew Crew

Nice pounding of their ace today -- he threw over 40 pitches in the first inning.  Wake continues to fill in nicely as the # 5 starter and may move up with the DL-addition of Bucholz.  On the latter, I applaud this move of precaution rather than risking a more serious injury.  The DL also has Craw-fish and Jed-low.  Fortunately, those injuries do not seem serious though I feel for Jed-low.  Seems that the injury bug keeps biting him. I saw that fender-bender he had with Craw-fish which resulted in Jed-low's initial injury.  It could have been avoided with a little more communications in the OF.  Easy for me to say from the comfort of my living room couch.

Nice opportunity for Reddick and LHP Andrew Miller to step.  I suppose that Aceves will be the 4th or 5th starter now until Buchholz gets back.

Perhaps 'Sox can keep all 3 on the DL until after the All-Star break and ensure that they are fresh, healthy, and ready for the 2nd half.

  1. Great post! Finally, we have a nickname for Just Jed: Jed-Low!!

Seriously, there's nothing like a good beating! Baseball ain't fun when it's 2-1, 5-4 or 6-3. 12-3 is fun!! How 'bout Wake? Win #197!! He's gonna get 200 wins this season for sure. He pitched as well today as I've ever seen him. The knucklah was totally on. I can't imagine them Brewers have seen a lot of a knuckleball. Well they got a good look today!

The Crawfish injury's not that serious. Hammies come and go and it was the right thing to do to shut him down for a while. Same with Buchholz. No need to keep pushing his starts back and getting the rest of the rotation all screwed up. Buch, take if from someone with chronic back problems, and get your treatments. Best to get these injuries over and done with now before the big push to October.

If...the big IF...Miller pitches well tomorrow night, he'll be the 5th man. Beckett, Lester, Lackey, Wake and Miller. Aceves needs to stay in his present role of long- and relief guy. If Miller implodes early tomorrow night due to nerves, 'Fredo Lay can come in from the pen and take over. I don't think it's necessary to add him to the starting rotation UNLESS Miller totally tanks. Buchholz is only 15 days out and we shouldn't send Wake to the pen. He proved today that he totally deserves to start.

I like where we're at and how things are going. It would be nice to go into the All Star break (a mere 3 weeks away) in solid possession of first place.
