He has had a history of back problems, shoulder problems, and vertigo. Last 3 years with the 'Sox: 140, 109, and 137 games, respectively. He certainly does not qualify an iron man award nor has he knocked in over 70 runs in any given season for the 'Sox -- begs the question: why did Theo sign this guy?
I see that Wake will start Wednesday night pushing Beckett back to a Friday night start. Sounds like Beckett may get in some extra work and maybe watch some video on his mechanics. I have a lot of faith in John Farrell, the pitching coach.
In the minors, RHP Casey Kelly continues to impress. Maybe we see him in the bigs after the All-Star break if 'Sox need some starting pitching help.

Granted vertigo is a difficult thing to contend with, but it seems as though its one thing or another with Drew. He's not had one healthy season since he's been with the Sox. Theo loves him. Go figure. Drew lacks the grind-mentality that a lot of good players possess. If he's sore, he likely to sit as opposed to those iron men who play through the pain.
ReplyDeleteI hope the extra few days give Beckett a chance to regroup. He could use a few "mental health" days off.
And, I can't ask the question enough: how long are we supposed to put up with Ortiz? So what that a righty opposing pitcher started!! I get the whole pitching match up. I get so frustrated watching him just stand there and then argue balls and strikes when he's called out. What's it gonna take to get Lowell in there for good?!
