Beckett still not right

Over 100 pitches in 5 innings and leaves with an undisclosed injury.  At the the 'Sox avoided the sweep and snagged a win.  They really need Ells and Cameron back.

  1. As I watched our "ace" leave the mound last night with an ERA as high as the national debt, I wondered if Beckett was really injured. I spend a lot of working hours in the political environment, so I'm used to "damage control." I wondered if perhaps management was using damage control to protect the "ace" from another bad outing. This morning's Boston Globe reported that Beckett's back flared up, but that he should make his next scheduled start. Ok. But the way the game had gone up to that point still made me wonder if Tito and Ferrell weren't doing what they could do to minimize the fallout.

And, what's up with Girardi? When Beckett's "injury" occurred, the Stankees were up 5-0. Girardi cried in his cornflakes that Ferrell, (who's not the manager by the way, Joe) signaled for DelCarmen before getting the trainer for Beckett. Cry-baby Joe did not want Manny to have more than the 8 warm-up throws new pitchers get. Yeah, I know the rules of the game, Whiney, but I don't think anyone was trying to pull one over on you. You were up 5-0, Joe, so what's the deal? Boo-hoo! Seriously, this is why people hate the Yankees.

A word on Ells and Cam. We all know that things are not right with the Sox right now. We are looking for anything to turn the tide and keep it there for good. That said, a word of warning to Sox management: Do not rush Ells and Cam back to the lineup before they are ready because you believe they are the answers to the Sox woes. If they are hurried back before they are completely healed, they will re-injure themselves and the time on the DL could be much more serious next time. These boys don't have some magic formula for transforming us 5-6 games above .500. Don't blow it, Terry!

  2. Agree not rushing those two back, particularly Ells. Cracked ribs have got to be painful.

As to Beckett, perhaps a stint on the DL would be in order. Get him healthy now rather than later. They can insert Wake into the rotation for a few starts.
