First, let me lobby the organization a little on my own behalf. Mr. Henry, you should hire me as the voice of common sense! I feared Ells would be back in action before he was completely healed, and now it has come to pass. DL yet again. Who's to say that in 15 more days he'll even be ready to return? I was afraid that there'd be a rush to get him back in the belief that the boy possessed some kind of magic power to turn the season around. Well, so much for that! Seriously Mr. Henry, call me.
And as for Wake, he just wasn't on at all tonight. The sad thing is that he got zero help from his offense. This season, it seems that when the starter goes belly up, the offense folds like a house of cards. Boys, you've got to pick your starter up! The loss Friday night was a collective implosion. I think Tito thought Wake could maybe get himself out of a jam while Scotty A. warmed up. No such luck.
Poor Vic. Here's another one forced back into the line up before he was ready. But what could they do with Wake pitching? Perhaps Wake and Buch could have flip flopped starts? Maybe Tek could have caught Buch Friday night to give Vic one more day. Would one day's earlier start really have made that much of a difference for our #2 guy, Buch? You could see Vic was crouching flat-footed so as to take his weight off his toe. Running the bases appeared hard for him too. Probably no amount of tape or padding in his shoe was going to make it less painful to put all his weight on that sore toe.
Again, a shout out to Bill Hall! I love this guy! He gets better with every game. He goes out to the pen with Tek and then comes in and has the easiest inning of the entire night! I know there's always some concern with a position guy pitching when he's not a pitcher, but Bill threw 9 pitches. It was just like playing catch with Tek! He was actually throwing strikes. You go, Bill Hall!!
My adimiration for Tek keeps going up this season. Perhaps its because he's just Captain Back Up. No pressure. He just handles the staff with complete expertise.
Finally, what can be said about the Mike Lowell situation? There has been complete radio silence by the press, the team and Mikey since his comments last week. That he's not getting at least one at-bat makes me think there's a trade in the works. A team will not play a guy they are trying to unload for fear he'll get hurt. I hope for Mikey's sake that he can get with another team soon (although I will sob hysterically when my baseball boyfriend is no longer a Sox). But, given the present situation, it's much harder seeing him rust on the bench. Shame on you, Theo!!
Agree with what appears to be injury mismanagement. I am not a doctor. However, with today's modern medical tests, such as MRIs, it seems to me that cracked ribs would be easier to detect.
I sometimes wonder why specialists are not consulted earlier on. 'Sox have had some good team doctors and some questionable ones. Dr. Pappas, who was a part owner of the 'Sox, was considered to have an ethical conflict of interest.
Dr. Morgan performed the procedures on Schill in 2004 was supposedly very good though he had some personal problems.
I just wonder sometimes how good the medical staff is not only for the 'Sox but other sports teams. I can see why players have preferences for a specialist of their choice to provide a 2nd opinion. Dr. Andrews, that famous orthopedic surgeon, is often sought for such opinions.
The injury mis-management continues to spill onto the field with roster management.
From a distance, it seems as if there are disconnects between Theo and Tito which seem more prominent this year.
I don't think there's disconnects between Theo and Tito. I think Theo's trying to run the show. Honestly, I don't know how Terry keeps his sanity being micromanaged by the likes of Theo. I couldn't stand some Blackberry-weilding number cruncher, who's never picked up a bat a day in his life, telling me how to run a baseball team. No wonder Terry chews threw a bucket of bubble game each game!!
GM's, like owners, should understand their roles and let the field manager and coaches do their respective jobs.
The Washington Redskins have an overreaching owner.
In contrast, Bob Kraft seems to allow his coaches run the Patriots, though in my humble opinion, Belicheck has too much on his plate and could delegate some more.
All Tito has done is lead the 'Sox to 2 WS championship during his time in Boston. If Theo is micro-managing, then it is just a matter of time between Tito moves on.
