Boston Red Sox - Epstein addresses year’s failed plan - The Boston Globe

  1. How 'bout the "lost GM season" instead? After all, it was Theo's philosophy last off season to make this season a bridge year. I mean, it doesn't matter who you sign or trade for because injuries cannot be controlled.

What can be controlled is who we get. Instead of getting us some bullpen help at the trade deadline (I was screaming for Kerry Wood!), Boy Wonder signed some broken down prospect who was going to platoon at first base, and a catcher who ended up needing thumb surgery!! Theo had some grandiose idea that the relievers from the farm were going to swoop into the bullpen and save the team from a downward spiral. This just points out the down side of having a GM with no big league playing experience (or any playing experience for that matter!) Those kids did not have big league miles on them. It's a whole different world between AAA and the bigs and Theo was naive to think that baptism by fire would somehow work wonders.

There's a lot of work to be done this offseason. Who's stayin, who's goin. But let's get it right!! No more "bridge year" BS. The fans will not stand for it, Theo!

I still stand by the boys and the fact that despite the injuries, they did a hell of a lot better than the dogs of the AL East with their healthy players. I'll be at Fenway on Sunday to close out the season in person and say good-bye to my fave. I know this offseason will be less stressful for me. There's no danger of Theo making a bone-headed decision with Mikey and making things worse! Theo, your margin of error this offseason's razor thin.
