He is listed as the Sox number one prospect. Assessment via the link, below.

Perhaps we may see him in Boston this year. More likely that he will spend the year in Pawtucket. If he develops quickly and his MLB level ready this or next, ths could allow a trade of Youk in the near future.
Youk is not the same player he was just a few years ago due to injuries. If Cherington plans to unload Youk, he will need to do that before another injury further erodes his market value. Something to watch.

This may sound ironic given the fact that we all have to get our foot in the door in some capacity, but I'm not hanging my hat on too many Sox prospects. We've seen the likes of Kalish, Felix, Andrew Miller and Iglasias come up and they're good, but I haven't seen one guy that really has stood out. Kalish seemed to be the pick of the litter until he got hurt. I realize you cannot get good without the mileage; however, I think our prospects lack a bit of polish. I do remember Pedey's call up and the fact that he hit .150 that first season. He obviously improved substanitally with experience. That said, I think there was a little something extra in Pedey to begin with, something that I haven't seen in our other call ups.
ReplyDeleteI hope Cherington would not trade Youk for another prospect. If that has to happen, or if it happens, I would prefer us get a journeyman. There's too much expectation in Boston for the post-season. We are not a learning club like the O's or Nats.
