Not bringing back 'Tek concerns me. His veteran presence and handling the pitching staff are those intangibles that don't show up in the boxscores and are not readily evident to fans. His biggest negative has been an inability to throw out base stealers. To me, that does not cancel out his intangibles.
Pap's departure creates a big hole and much uncertainty. Couple that with Bard's desire to start and the hole looks even bigger.
J.D. Drew - good riddance. $70M for a clutch hit in the 2007 World Series -- was he worth it?
Will Wake return? I think he still has value to the team given his interchangeability between the bullpen and starting.
Tomorrow: any help coming from the farm?

I'd absolutely bring Tek back in some capacity. Yes, we have Shoppach to spot Salty but it's Beckett that concerns me. But the Sox aren't going to sign Tek to catch one guy and take up a valuable roster spot. The thought of turning the rotation completely over to Salty is daunting considering he's only been starting with us one season and he's only caught Beckett maybe a handful of times--if that!
ReplyDeleteWake's value was proven last season: long relief, spot starter, middle reliever. I'd love to see him back with the condition it's 1-year, low-budget and a non-starting role. Knuckleballers can go and go. Since we are in serious need of pitching help, what's the harm in bringing Wake back?
What exactly is Dice-K's situation? I've heard NOTHING on his status. No one, the media or the Sox, has uttered a peep on this guy. Are we trying to sweep the whole Dice-K experiement under the rug? With the Yu Darvish signing in Texas, the rumblings about Dice-K have been that he was a complete failure and that more is expected from Darvish.
I've become a very loyal groupie of MLB's Intentional Talk with Chris Rose and Kevin Millar. I'm almost hesitant to say that I love Millar...as a commentator. Liked him as a Sox, but you really get a better sense of him as a media personality. He's hilarious, but spot on with his analysis. Anyway, he & Rose have tip-toed around the whole Dice-K thing too. Valentine said he saw Dice-K in Florida and that he looked good. So? Is he invited to camp or what?
Good-bye Nancy Drew. We still have Cindy Crawford to poke fun at, especially if he has another dismal season. I won't miss Drew at all. Now that Theo's gone, I think it's safe to cut ties with Drew. Nancy was Theo's man-crush.
Regarding Dice-K, I understand that he might be available in mid-2012. The radio silence regarding his rehab progress has been a bit disconcerting. Dice-K's only good season was 2007. Other than that, I'd put his 'Sox career on the same level as that of JD
ReplyDelete"with-Drew".
Theo's legacy: we have been saddled with the oppressive contracts of Lackey, Crawford, and Dice-K. He was very frivolous with the checkbook. His best 2 years of being a GM was 2003-2004. He brought in: Millar, Mueller, Big Papi, Dave Roberts, Cabrera, Bellhorn, Schill, Foulke. I may be overlooking other good moves.
