Southpaw in Fenway

Our fellow blog partner, Southpaw, was in Fenway today.  Must have been emotional to bid farewell to Mike Lowell and more than likely 'Tek.

Nice to see our beloved 'Sox play spoiler and knock out the Yankees from winning the division.

Big Papi of the past 2 seasons is not worth $12.5M. He is one dimensional. Interesting to see how this will play out.

VMart and Beltre: I predict they will end up elsewhere next season. They are both looking for long-term, lucrative deals.

Mike Lowell's legacy

The Globe had a story about how the 'Sox never really wanted Lowell.  The feeling was that the Marlins demanded that the 'Sox take Lowell in order to get get Beckett, the proverbial "throw in".  Far being a throw-in, he was an integral part of the 2007 WS championship.

I remember the trade for Beckett and Lowell in which the Theo-less front office sent SS Hanley Ramirez and SP Anibal Sanchez in exchange.  The following year, Ramirez has a stellar season and Sanchez threw a no-hitter.  I remember thinking, "great, a lopsided deal".  But, that all changed in 2007.

He has been a class act despite Theo trading to trade him at least 2-3 times.  I will miss seeing his name in the boxscore and feeling the comfort of his covering the hot corner.  Thanks for the memories, Mike.  You'll always be wanted in my book.
